Inspired by a true event set in 1991 Indonesia during a decades-long dictatorship, Biru Laut (Reza Rahadian), a student with a passion for literature, joins Winatra - an underground movement fighting for freedom of expression. Dreaming of becoming an intellectual of action, Laut commits to the resistance, fully aware that it could cost him his life. As the net of surveillance tightens, his comrades are arrested one by one until Laut himself vanishes. Left in the wake of his disappearance, his family and loved ones begin a grueling quest for truth, justice, and answers.
