From the 1970s to the present, Take Off depicts a man obsessed with the dream of flying. Li Mingqi, a laborer in Northeast China, pursues his dream of flying with a self-made device, but his experiments fail. Later, amid the Reform and Opening Up policy, Mingqi and his wife transform a factory into a dance hall, but he can't abandon his dream of flying.
